Supporting you through your breastfeeding journey

A little about me

Hello, I'm Dr. Laura Baxter, and I understand firsthand the challenges of breastfeeding. Whether you're a first-time mother or a seasoned parent welcoming your fourth baby, adapting to breastfeeding can be a journey filled with uncertainties. As a mother myself, I know the importance of extra support during this transformative time. My goal is to provide you and your baby with the guidance and care needed to navigate these challenges and create a nurturing breastfeeding experience that suits both of you.

A personal approach

From the moment we meet, you'll receive personalised care crafted specifically for you and your family. I'll attentively listen to your circumstances, challenges, desires, and lifestyle, dedicating the time needed to truly understand your needs.

My longer appointments mean we can delve deep into your concerns.

Together, we'll navigate your journey with support and expert guidance, enabling you and your baby to enjoy a happier and more fulfilling breastfeeding experience.

General Practitioner | BM, BSc (Hons), FRACGP, NDC Accredited

Rest assured, you're in capable hands with me, as a GP with a special interest in breastfeeding medicine and infant care.

I became a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2022, after graduating from the University of Southampton in the UK with a Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences (2006) and Bachelor of Medicine (2010).

I have an interest in perinatal care (care of women during their pregnancies and after birth including care of their babies in the first year of life) but I am currently focussing my clinical care on post-natal care, in particular, supporting women and their babies who are breastfeeding, as well as parents requiring support for their early parenting journeys. I also provide education and planning care for pregnant women who are aiming to breastfeed.

I have done over 200 hours of education in breastfeeding medicine including the IABLE 5-day Comprehensive Breastfeeding Medicine Course for Physicians and Basic and Advanced Skills workshops through the Breastfeeding Medicine Network of Australia/New Zealand.  I am Possums/Neuroprotective Developmental Care (NDC) aligned having completed their workshops and masterclasses and am also NDC accredited.

With first-hand experience gained from my own journey of motherhood and breastfeeding, I can offer a wealth of specialised knowledge and dedication to supporting your breastfeeding journey.

I take pride in dedicating the time needed to understand your challenges and struggles, listening and tailoring my advice to your unique needs.

When I’m not in clinic I spend most of my week coordinating the Year 2 curriculum and Year 1 Clinical Practice teaching for medical students at Bond University. I have been a director on the board of General Practice Gold Coast (GPGC), a not-for-profit that provides advocacy, networking and education for GPs on the Gold Coast since 2020. I have also recently joined the Conference Organising Committee for the Breastfeeding Medicine Network of Australia/New Zealand (BMNANZ).

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and young daughter and going camping.
